The modern movement started at the turn of the twentieth century. Buildings were built that made people stop, look and think. They looked like something out of the future, but were really just the present, unfettered by preconceptions of the status quo. The design of a building was an intellectual quest for a balance between form and function. Now, we have the suburban McMansion, a home of huge proportion, with no substance, or, the throwback, a new design hoping to evoke an emotional safety net by looking like something that came before.
So here, we, RBA, humbly stand in Dayton Ohio, saying that it's OK to build something new. A building that doesn't look like something that came before; or taking the old and giving it a modern use and context without making excuses for the previous architect. While much architecture being practiced today is more akin to plastic surgery - making something look like something it's not, we're more interested in creating new buildings that are truly new, or resuscitating old buildings giving them a new and vital life. Rogero Buckman Architects creates productive and exciting places for people to live, work, and play. Our architecture fulfills requirements of function and cost, our design strives to inspire emotion and a response. The result is a building or space that performs for the client and the user; architecture that enriches and contributes to the viability and vitality of the community. We call it building a modern world. Since you are here reading our website, we take it you are someone who is looking for the exception, not the rule. Thank you.
